TEACHERS: Backing the wrong candidate
The teacher's union march in Coeur d'Alene was misdirected. I wonder if union leaders have told their hard working teachers about the perks received by their chosen candidate Stan Olson. During his time as superintendent of the Boise School District, Olson received a $175,000 salary vs. the $90,000 made by Superintendent of Idaho Schools Tom Luna.
Olson accepted a $25,000 bonus this year when education dollars were precious to teachers and students. Luna personally petitioned the Idaho State Legislature to cut his salary by 4 percent to go toward education needs. Olson drove a car paid for out of the school district budget, which also paid his Rotary club dues. Tom Luna transferred $5 million from his own department budget to save school programs. Luna faced the reality of low tax revenues and secured an additional $22 million from the Land Board for education. Idaho deserves a dedicated public servant, such as Tom Luna, who is willing to take personal responsibility in serving the students of Idaho.
