NIC romps; No. 3 Salt Lake next

COEUR d’ALENE — Tina Strahinic had 17 kills as 10th-ranked North Idaho College swept Snow College 25-17, 25-9, 27-25 in Scenic West Athletic Conference volleyball Thursday night at Christianson Gym.

Kaylee Ponce had eight kills and 11 digs for NIC (18-5, 4-0 SWAC). Fei Gao added six kills and 11 digs, Gabriella Rifilato had 25 assists and Kyona Hunt had 10 digs.

“I think we came out strong; we were excited to be at home,” NIC coach Colleen Frohlich said. “We came out firing away and took control early.”

Niurika Toribio had 13 kills for Snow (13-10, 3-1).

On Saturday NIC plays host to third-ranked Salt Lake Community College (21-3, 2-2), which lost to No. 11 Southern Idaho in four games Thursday night in Twin Falls.

“We’re playing well, and we’re excited to get them on our home court,” Frohlich said.
