STRAHORN: Action makes street safer
This letter is in response to Michael J. Murphy's diatribe of Sept. 29 concerning the recent change on Strahorn Avenue between Miles and Hayden Avenue in Hayden Lake to a one-way street. He likens the residents on this section of Strahorn to "Beverly Hills wannabees." Are you kidding me! This section of Strahorn is narrow, rough and bumpy and was barely safe for two cars to pass by each other.
This recent change in the traffic pattern on Strahorn, as well as the installation of a four-way stop at the corner of Strahorn and Hayden Avenue, has nothing to do with "keeping out the riff-raff," as Mr. Murphy believes, but is in response to all the motorists who do not obey the speed limits on these streets, run the stop sign and otherwise endanger the lives of other motorists, children on bicycles, pedestrians, etc. Those of us who live in Hayden Lake welcome all motorists as long as they abide by our posted speed limits. We have recently had the horrifying experience of hearing a speeding vehicle hit and kill a deer right beyond our backyard on Hayden Avenue! Thank goodness it wasn't a child on a bike!
We applaud Mayor Nancy Morris and the members of the Hayden Lake City Council in their efforts to slow down the traffic and make our streets safer for all who use them! This is the sole motivation behind these recent changes!
