Wine fundraiser planned tonight
COEUR d'ALENE - Barrel Room No. 6 wants people to give back.
The winery is holding a fundraiser on Wednesday to benefit the education trust fund of Jonathan Mann, 11, whose father Sam Mann recently passed away.
For every glass of wine sold, $1 will go toward Mann, said General Manager Kimber Gates. Ten percent of every wine bottle sold will also go toward the trust.
"We're trying to give people flexibility on how to give back," Gates said. "You don't have to drink a bunch that night. They can stock up on wine bottles for home."
She is glad the winery could provide a location for the event.
"It's just friends who have called me to see if we could get creative and put something together to show support for the family," she said. "I have the place and I have the wine, and obviously I'd love to help."
The fundraiser will be from 2-8 p.m. at Barrel Room No. 6, 503 E. Sherman Ave.
Library adds Game Cafe to program menu
Coeur d'Alene Public Library Youth Services are introducing a program with an old-time twist - board games. Game Cafe will debut in the Seagraves Children's Library, 702 E. Front Ave., on Wednesday, Oct. 13, from 4-5:30 p.m.
Games such as Bingo, Checkers, Chess, Parcheesi, Scrabble and Sorry will be available. Door prizes and snow cones will also be provided for this free activity intended for ages 9-13.
And for real old-fashioned fun, Youth Services have brought back the Ocarina Club, Fridays at 4 p.m. Participants learn about this ancient musical instrument, and how to play it. No knowledge of music is necessary. Space is limited for this activity. Call or visit the library for registration information.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department, the boys, 9 and 11, didn't return to Coeur d'Alene Christian Center in Hayden after the lunch hour.
The two juveniles were found safe in the 6300 block of Cornwall Street about 7:30 p.m., where they had stopped and knocked on a door requesting to use the telephone to call their families, a KCSD press release said.
The two were reunited with their families back at the school.

Hauser Lake advisory lifted
Panhandle Health District and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality have lifted a health advisory for the Hauser Lake shoreline.
PHD and DEQ issued the health advisory last week in response to blue-green algae identified in water samples along the lake's shoreline. Blue-green algae are naturally occurring, microscopic bacteria that can produce toxins harmful to humans and animals.
Observations indicate that blue-green algae have dissipated and are no longer a health threat for people and animals coming in contact with lake water. Residents are advised to keep an eye out for any reappearance of algae blooms, which can resemble green paint.
