COEUR d'ALENE - A pair of canoes are expected to make lasting memories for Boy Scouts at Camp Easton.

Doug and Liz Anderson of Big Rock Timber & Development, developers of Gotham Bay Estates, recently received the Golden Eagle award from the Inland Northwest Council of the Boy Scouts of America for donating the two new war canoes to Camp Easton.

"Boy Scouts come to Camp Easton for a full week and take part in dozens of different activities, but for most Scouts, the overnight trip to Mica Bay in the war canoes is the highlight," Tim McCandless, Scout executive for the Inland Northwest Council of the Boy Scouts of America, wrote in an e-mail.

The camp had an aging fleet of five smaller war canoes that had been used for decades and were beyond repair.

In 2006, one new war canoe was donated by Dennis Wheeler and this year, two more were donated by the Andersons.

"These three new, larger war canoes is keeping the long-standing tradition alive and will provide thousands of Scouts for many years to come with an unforgettable experience on Lake Coeur d'Alene," McCandless wrote.

Camp Easton is owned and operated by the Inland Northwest Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
