Tigers open IML with win

| October 2, 2010 9:00 PM

FOOTBALL

Spirit Lake — Josh Zanoni returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, Christian Heth ran for 164 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries, and the Timberlake Tigers earned their first win of the season with a 42-27 defeat of the Priest River Spartans on Friday night in the Intermountain League opener for both teams.

Cody Rabideux’s 26-yard touchdown run in the third quarter pulled the Spartans to within 28-27, but the Tigers (1-4) answered with a 5-yard touchdown run from Heth and a 37-yard touchdown run from Ty Shaffer to create a cushion they would not relinquish against Priest River (1-4).

“Priest River has some outstanding skill players and we do too, so it became a game of who was going to outscore the other one,” Timberlake coach Roy Albertson said.

The Tigers, who racked up 393 yards on the ground, play at St. Maries next Friday.
