DINERS: Benefit from a kind act

| October 1, 2010 6:26 AM

In these difficult times for our country, when our government is divided between left and right, and when it seems that everyone is out for themselves a random act of kindness reminded me of how great people can be and how great a place this country is to live.

Last Friday, I was enjoying a nice meal out with my family at a new restaurant in town. My son who is 2 began looking over the booth at the couple sitting behind us and playing peek-a-boo. Trying to keep him at bay, the couple struck up a conversation with us briefly before returning to our meals. As this couple behind us left, they had slipped us a card that appeared to be a gift card.

They stated that they wanted us to have it and felt blessed by our family. Out of assumption, I figured there were a couple of dollars left on the card and they wanted someone to use it up. As we received our bill, we found that the gift card was worth $50. These kind people knew nothing about us and had never met us prior to this evening. Out of the kindness of their hearts, they performed a random act for complete strangers. A random act that restores faith in mankind.

Imagine if we all tried acts of kindness for no other reason than to be kind. Thanks again to the couple sitting behind us that day.
