Many crashes, slideoffs, injuries reported as snow flies

A young woman was injured Sunday afternoon when the pickup she was driving collided with two semi trucks on Interstate 90 near Post Falls, according to Idaho State Police.

Haylee V. Ludolph, 17, of Bonners Ferry, was traveling eastbound near milepost 6 when she lost control of her 2007 Chevrolet Colorado pickup, police said. The vehicle crossed the median and collided head-on with a westbound 2009 Kenworth semi-truck and trailer driven by Daniel B. Miller, 52, of Roundup, Mont., police said.

Ludolph's vehicle continued traveling westbound, striking a 2001 Peterbuilt semi-truck and trailer driven by Daniel E. Sonsalla, 53, of Baraboo, Wis., police said.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene at 2:38 p.m.

Ludolph sustained minor injuries and was transported to Kootenai Medical Center, where she was treated and released, according to hospital staff. Miller and Sonsalla were not injured in the crash, police said.

Haylee, Miller and Sonsalla were all wearing seat belts when the incident occurred, police said. One westbound lane on I-90 was closed for approximately two hours after the wreck.

KMC personnel said the hospital treated an inordinate number of weather-related injuries Sunday, the result of heavy snowfall and winter conditions.

Idaho State Police responded to approximately 30 crashes and slideoffs in the Coeur d'Alene area on Sunday, an ISP press release reported at 4:30 p.m. Police and hospital staff encouraged drivers to slow down and use caution when traveling.
