MISSOULA, Mont. - Mitch Bevacqua went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen past the Glacier Twins 7-3 in their season opener in the Dale Dahlgren Memorial Day "AA" tournament at Maverick Field.

"We played like it was our first game of the season," Coeur d'Alene coach Lloyd Duman said. "We got a lot of learning experience today. I was impressed with our intensity from the get-go. It was very encouraging to see the players start yelling so fast today."

Tournament officials pushed start times back two hours on Saturday due to rain.

"We kind of hit the ground running today," Duman said. "We got out of the vans and started playing almost immediately. We were waiting on the call to see if we were going to play and got there a little later than expected."

Chad Nyquist went 2 for 3 with a triple for the Lumbermen (1-0), who face the Helena Senators today at 9 a.m. PDT and Bozeman Bucks at 11:30 a.m.

Also Saturday, the Glacier Twins defeated the Coeur d'Alene Loggers 9-6 in the "A" tournament at Osprey Field.
