Fire destroys abandoned home
WORLEY - A slash pile burn that got out of control was blamed for a fire that destroyed an abandoned home near Worley on Wednesday morning.
The fire at 3417 W. Rolling Hills Road about 5 miles southeast of Worley was reported around 9:10 a.m.
A man was burning slash on his mother's property when the blaze became too big to handle.
Car wash to benefit man with tumor
A car wash is scheduled noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Coeur d'Alene Metals, 7200 Government Way, to benefit a man with a brain tumor.
Joseph Cawyer Anderson was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma, which is a brain tumor.
"Pathology reports show the cancer to be of the worst and fastest growing," according to a press release.
Anderson, 20, attends Spokane Falls Community College and plays on the soccer team.
His full-time caregiver is his single mom who needs help. He has two younger brothers and their mom has recently lost her job.
"This family of four is living on unemployment alone and needs help with getting by," the release said. "Every day expenses and getting Joey to treatment are proving to be impossible.
