SCREENING: Komen applauded for help

| May 27, 2010 6:27 AM

The Panhandle Health District (PHD) continues to provide breast exams with vouchers for mammograms and/or breast ultrasounds to income-eligible women and men thanks to the generosity of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Coeur d’Alene affiliate.

The number of people needing breast cancer screening grows every year. Last year, PHD was able to screen nearly 500 people for breast cancer in the five northern counties with the Komen funding. Already this year, screenings made possible by the Coeur d’Alene affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure have led to the diagnoses of seven breast cancers. These people were able to access the services they needed with the assistance of the Komen program and PHD services.

Panhandle Health District appreciates the Coeur d’Alene Komen affiliate’s support of breast cancer screening in the five northern counties and its confidence in PHD’s women’s health services.  We encourage uninsured and under-insured women to call PHD at 415-5293 to find out if they qualify for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure program or other programs that cover breast and cervical cancer screening.
