Phillies baffled by Dickey's knuckle

R.A. Dickey became the latest knuckleballer to baffle the Philadelphia Phillies, shaking off an early line drive that hit him on his non-pitching elbow to lead the host New York Mets to an 8-0 victory Tuesday night.
Two days after 43-year-old Boston knuckler Tim Wakefield tossed eight shutout innings to beat the Phillies, Dickey shut them down for his first major league win since April 10, 2009, for Minnesota against the Chicago White Sox.

Pirates 2, Reds 1: Ryan Doumit hit a solo homer in the ninth, leading Pittsburgh at Cincinnati.
Padres 1, Cardinals 0: Jerry Hairston Jr. homered to lift San Diego past visiting St. Louis.
Giants 4, Nationals 2: Freddy Sanchez hit a two-run double, and San Francisco beat visiting Washington.

Orioles 5, Athletics 1: Nick Markakis homered and host Baltimore beat Oakland.
Indians 7, White Sox 3: Mitch Talbot pitched seven solid innings and host Cleveland beat Chicago.
Angels 8, Blue Jays 3: At Anaheim, Calif., Mike Napoli homered to lead Los Angeles past Toronto.
Rangers 8, Royals 7: Vladimir Guerrero hit a pair of two-run homers and drove in five runs to lead Texas at Kansas City.
Red Sox 2, Rays 0: At St. Petersburg, Fla., David Ortiz had a two-run double, leading Boston past Tampa Bay.
Twins 0, Yankees 0, susp., rain, 5 inn.: At Minneapolis, the New York-Minnesota game was suspended with the teams scoreless after five innings.
The game will resume in the top of the sixth today at 2:10 p.m. PDT. The second game of the series will either begin at its regularly scheduled time of 4:10 p.m. PDT or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
