HOYT: Press did man no justice
I just returned from the funeral of Grant Hoyt. The church in Rathdrum was packed with friends, family and loved ones. In fact, people were standing in the rain outside because there was no room in the church. Grant touched so many lives. He died recently from unknown causes. Alone. I was surprised and disappointed by the Coeur d'Alene Press article about his death. It struck me as short-sighted and hastily written. Who did it serve to elaborate at length about his past? Rathdrum Chief of Police Kevin Fuhr’s comments were not appropriate for the story. What good did they serve? Why didn't the reporter take two minutes to speak with a family member or friend who could shed a different light — and balance the comments made by the trash-talking police chief? Overall, the article confused and saddened me. Not for me, but for his family. Grant deserved better.
