Hay fire does $700 in damage

COEUR d'ALENE - A hay bale fire that caused an estimated $700 in damage was started by four kids, according to a Coeur d'Alene police report.The fire was started about 4:30 p.m. in a field at 2100 W. Canfield Ave. near Ramsey Road. Two witnesses told police they saw three boys and one girl, all about 14, standing next to the haystack just before it started to smoke.

Investigators said eight alfalfa bales were damaged, along with a tarp that was covering the stack. The estimated value of the hay was $500, and the tarp was valued at $200.Witnesses said the suspects walked east and went into Coeur d'Alene Place.
