Vikings share third at 5A tourney

| May 23, 2010 9:00 PM

BOISE - Rain shortened the third-place game between Coeur d'Alene and Rocky Mountain in the state 5A baseball tournament Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Rocky Mountain was leading 5-1 in the top of the second inning when the game was called. With Coeur d'Alene (22-10) unable to stick around for another couple of days to finish the game, tournament officials decided both teams would share third place.

"I'm pretty proud of the guys for where we're at as a program," Coeur d'Alene coach Nick Rook said. "We came up short of our goal, but our kids should hold their heads high. It was nice of the tournament organizers to award both us and Rocky Mountain third place. It helps us validate the season without playing the game."

Coeur d'Alene returns 12 players next season.

"I'm excited for next year," Rook said. "We've got a lot of kids coming back. We'll be working hard during the offseason to make another appearance in the state playoffs in 2011."
