Play Day in Athol, a family organization with about 35 members, is currently building an extreme trail course for horses at Farragut State Park.

The course, located near the corral equestrian area, will open for a three-day event starting Saturday, May 29, said Misty Saganski, a member of the organization.

Play Day in Athol's event will be an extreme trail challenge with $500 added in the open. There also will be prizes for youth and novice to sixth place, Saganski said.

On May 30 and 31 there will be a doubleheader o-mok-see, a horse gaming event. There also will be camping available, trail riding, and a cook shack will be open, she said.

Donations for building the extreme trail can be made through any branch of Bank of America, under the name Play Day in Athol Association, Saganski said.

"We decided to build it because we saw a need in the community," Kathy Wilson, a member of the organization, said.

The extreme course will loop around for more than a mile, with multiple permanent obstacles, such as a trench and pond, Saganski said. The course will have room to grow.

It will be open to the public after it is completed, Wilson said.
