HOYT: Good deeds should count, too
I am writing this letter in response to the article “Missing Man Found Dead.” Being a “local” myself, I was aware that the man in question was missing and that his body had been found.
I was in the second grade at John Brown Elementary with Grant and have known his family since. I was incensed by this article and can only imagine the response by his family after reading the insensitive comments of the Rathdrum Police Chief.
In the event of a tragedy such as this, concerning a long time local family, I think that some restraint could have been shown. No mention was made of any of the good things that Grant did in his life. No effort on the part of the reporter to find even one good act that he might have done. Like the time he held my hand when I was 7 and was scared because the bus had wrecked in the snow. Or the time we laughed ourselves silly when we missed the bus and had to walk home. He was like everyone’s big brother. He will be missed by a great many people besides his family and I will be one of those people who will remember him in a light that was not one of how many times he was arrested nor how well the Rathdrum Police Department knew him. It is obvious that they didn't. My heart and prayers are with his family.
