Work makes all-WAC tourney team
LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Boise State pitcher Lela Work, a freshman from Lake City High, was named to the all-Western Athletic Conference softball tournament team last week after posting a 0.00 ERA.
Work pitched twice in the tournament. Pitching in relief against New Mexico State, she held the Aggies to one hit through five innings and earned the win as the Broncos completed a 9-8 comeback victory. Work tossed three more innings out of the bullpen in the Broncos' final game against Fresno State, allowing one hit and no earned runs, giving her a 0.00 ERA over eight innings in the tournament. Work also struck out eight and limited opponents to a .074 batting average with two walks.
The Broncos finished the season 29-32 and were third in the conference tournament.
Wrestlers holding
fundraiser Saturday
COEUR d'ALENE - Members of the Coeur d'Alene High wrestling team will hold a car wash and yard sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Coeur d'Alene High parking lot.
The event is a fundraiser for the Viking wrestling program, which won its first state title in February.
Tryout dates set for Cd'A program
The Coeur d'Alene American Legion baseball program set tryout dates for the 2010 season for freshman/junior varsity players Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McEuen Field.
Varsity players will try out between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.
The program consists of three teams: the AA Lumbermen, the A Loggers and the 16-U Lakers.
Prospective players between 14 and 19 are eligible to try out.
Spokane Spiders still winless
SPOKANE - The Spokane Spiders, playing in the PDL League of the United Soccer League, lost 2-0 last Friday to the Victoria Highlanders at Joe Albi Stadium.
The Spiders (0-2) play at home Friday at 7 p.m. vs. Portland.
