COEUR d'ALENE - North Idaho College has hired Ron Dorn as its new vice president for resource management. He plans to begin at NIC on July 30.
Dorn will replace current Vice President for Administrative Services Rolly Jurgens, who plans to retire this summer.
"Ron brings more than 35 years experience working with finances at various colleges and universities," said NIC President Priscilla Bell. "We're grateful to have someone with this exceptional amount of knowledge and experience join our team."
Dorn has worked with finances at various colleges and universities, most recently as the vice president for administration and finance at Minot State University in North Dakota. In that role, Dorn has overseen the remodeling of one of the college's residence halls, an academic building, ballroom and main college entrance. In addition, Dorn has participated in the development of a multi-cultural center on campus as well as contributed to campus master plan and strategic plan development.
After earning a bachelor's degree in business administration/accounting at Boise State University in 1974, Dorn began working as the assistant budget director there. He later served as the director of financial affairs at the College of Idaho, as chief fiscal officer at Friends University in Wichita, Kan., and as executive director for administrative services and institutional advancement at the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
In 1992, Dorn was hired as the vice president for administrative services at Lamar Community College in Colorado, where he served for six years. He later served in similar roles at MacMurray College in Illinois and at Miles Community College in Montana.
Dorn also holds a master's degree in management from Friends University.
"I look forward to the opportunity to move back to Idaho and to work for an institution that is an integral part of the North Idaho experience," Dorn said. "I hope that my 35 plus years in higher education in public and private, two-year and four-year institutions will be of some value to North Idaho College."
A campus-wide search committee reviewed more than 70 applicants for the vice president for resource management position at NIC. The top two candidates came to campus earlier this month for interviews.
