COEUR d’ALENE — Cars can park there too, at least during the winter.

The city of Coeur d’Alene will consider amending municipal code to allow single cars to park in the multi-unit vehicle-only parking stalls at the Third Street Marina.

The change would allow cars without boat trailers to park in the bigger spots from Dec. 21 through March 20, and provide easier access to Tubbs Hill for hikers when boaters aren’t putting boats into the water, according to staff reports.

The meeting is at 6 this evening in the Community Room of the Coeur d’Alene Public Library.

Also on the agenda, the city is also expected to approve extending the existing Joint Powers Agreement — or Solid Waste System Participation Agreement — with Kootenai County.

The three-year extension would match the term of the collection and recycling contract, and would facilitate the single stream recycling in the future.

The city is also expected to set a hearing for 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 15 to consider paying off three Local Improvement District loans with the Department of Environmental Quality early.

The payoff would save the city $43,473 in interest expense over the next seven years, but is outside its current financial plan.

The loans with the DEQ in the 1990s to fund six septic tank abatement projects, impacting more than 1,400 property owners.
