MY PLEDGE TO YOU
My run for county commissioner is based on a
commitment to serve the residents of our County at a time when our
nation and county are divided. One of my opponents
chooses to label me as merely a real estate
professional. Let me stress that I also bring the
organizational skills acquired over a 20-year period in the
corporate world, managing organizations, (people), budgets, and
projects.
I pledge to you that I will tap my experience
to improve the processes in our County to protect your tax
dollars. We’ve recently read about the frustration
encountered with our Building and Planning
Department. Employees respond to the processes in
place. Before we have any reduction in staff, we must
ensure that the correct processes – consistent and predictable -
are in place for subdivision approvals and the permitting
process. Only then, can we fairly evaluate whether
any reductions are called for.
I pledge to demonstrate the leadership,
vision, and heart of a servant to provide you with transparency and
stewardship in serving you. We need to institute the
televising of our public hearings to permit the general public to
be informed. You deserve to have all the facts, and
to know where your commissioners stand before any public vote.
I pledge to focus on a common sense approach
to growth, the expansion of economic opportunity, and begin the
process of reorganizing our County to serve our residents in a more
efficient and servanthood manner. Growth is
inevitable, and must be managed to permit the most efficient use of
our infrastructure and our public safety resources.
Unless we make the proper land use designations, including
commercial and industrial - and the Comprehensive Plan does this –
we cannot effectively channel prospective employers to our area,
and maintain the rural character that many or our citizens hold
dear.
I pledge to consider the possible role of a
county administrator. Before any decision is made to
proceed with an administrator, you the residents will be fully
informed so you can make the decision in a public referendum. Let’s
begin however, by first electing qualified commissioners who can
begin to lay the groundwork for more efficient and responsive local
government.
Public safety is also very important, as our
County Sheriff’s manpower is below recommended
levels. I will work to adjust the next budget to
provide the necessary resources to ensure your safety.
Finally, I pledge to work closely with
all our cities, to
establish better and stronger relationships, and to support their
efforts to achieve an achievable solution to our wastewater
discharge into the Spokane River.
No one running in this race offers the
experience to be able to reorganize the departments under the
commissioners, as I can. Working in a corporate
environment, with accountability to the bottom line has given me
the ability to manage your county departments to maximize the
return on your tax dollars.
I appeal for your vote on May
25th. Remember, the winner of this primary
election is your next county commissioner.
Thanks,
Chris Fillios.
