Timberlake nabs berth to state
OROFINO — After falling in the district championship game to Orofino 14-6, the Timberlake Tigers battled back to defeat the Priest River Spartans 14-4 in the 3A District 1-2 tournament second-place game for the school’s first trip to the state tournament since 2004.
“It’s exciting for the boys,” fourth-year Timberlake coach Bill Rider said. “I thought we played really well today. The way Orofino was hitting the ball, they were tough to beat. It was just one of those days when nobody was going to beat them.”
Timberlake trailed 3-0 in the fourth inning against Priest River (14-11) before a 10-run fifth inning helped the Tigers move past the Spartans.
Earlier, Priest River eliminated St. Maries (9-15) 15-5.
Timberlake (15-7) faces Buhl in its state 3A opener Thursday at 3 p.m. PDT at Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Ore.
