Ruth Moorhead, 86
Ruth G. “Ruthie” Moorhead, 86, of Hayden, died May 10, 2010, at By The Lake Assisted Living in Hayden. She was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Englewood, N.J., to Benjamin and Virginia (Philps) Graffin.
Ruth grew up in Teaneck, N.J., and was educated as a nurse there. She was married to Frank Daniel Moorhead on Oct. 26, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pa. Ruth served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from April 1945 to November 1945 and obtained the rank of Ensign. After the war, Ruth continued her career as a registered nurse. She lived most of her adult life in Columbus, Ohio, and Encino, Calif.
Ruth worked as a volunteer at Columbus Children’s Hospital, the Los Angeles Art Museum, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the First Community Church in Upper Arlington, Ohio. She enjoyed reading, traveling, music, writing and flower arranging. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her daughters, Carol McCarty and her husband, Bill of Coeur d’Alene and Barbara Reaoch and her husband, Ron of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Robert Graffin of Port Charlotte, Fla.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in August 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d’Alene. The time and date are pending and will be announced. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene, is in care of the arrangements.
