NIC golfer Dalton signs with WSU

COEUR d'ALENE - North Idaho College men's golfer Branden Dalton recently signed a letter of intent to play at Washington State.

Dalton played at Fernley High in Reno, Nev., where he was team most valuable player and league most valuable player all four years. He was state champion his senior year and earned first team all-state all four years of high school. He was also a two-time Nevada junior state champion and was a high school champion his senior year.

At NIC, Dalton earned first team All-American honors this season.

"Branden is the best golfer that we have had since we started the program five years ago," NIC coach Randy Boswell said. "His game is very solid from tee to green."

Windermere Marathon set for Saturday

The second running of the Windermere Marathon, boasting more than 1,300 competitors as well as the newly added Music Festival, will take place Saturday in Post Falls and Spokane.

The event will introduce the new event beneficiary and partner: Ronald McDonald House Charities Spokane.

The event will kick off with the full and half-marathons at 7 a.m. and will continue throughout the day with the Friends and Family Relay, the Corporate Relay, Duet-thon Relay, the 5k and the Music Festival at the Windermere Marathon wrapping up the festivities in the early evening.

The marathon starts at Riverbend Ave. in Post Falls; the half-marathon starts at Mirabeau Park in Spokane Valley. Both end at Riverfront Park in Spokane.

The Windermere Marathon, a Boston Marathon qualifier, follows the Centennial Trail from Post Falls to Spokane. The marathon and music festival are open to the general public.

Rathdrum offering adult volleyball

RATHDRUM - The Rathdrum Parks and Recreation Department is offering a free volleyball day for all adults who are interested in playing 4-person volleyball.

A free open gym will be offered Sunday at Lakeland High from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. If there is enough interest, the open gym will be extended to later in the day.
