Cataldo woman injured in head-on crash on I-90
POST FALLS - A 24-year-old Cataldo woman was injured when she collided head-on with a tractor-trailer rig on Interstate 90 in Post Falls Saturday night, the Idaho State Police said.
Heather D. Trecker was taken to Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene and transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, state police said. Hospital officials didn't immediately return a call seeking information on her condition.
Trecker, driving a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta, entered the westbound I-90 lanes from an off ramp at Exit 7 around 10 p.m. and traveled eastbound. Trecker drove eastbound in the westbound lanes for approximately half a mile, police said.
Tractor-trailer driver Edward Balika, 30, of Auburn, Wash., was in the westbound lanes and swerved to try and avoid a collision with Trecker's vehicle, but the two vehicles met head-on, police said.
Balika was injured and taken to Kootenai Medical Center, police said.
The westbound I-90 traffic was closed and traffic diverted at Northwest Boulevard for more than two hours.
Two other vehicles were damaged by debris from the accident. The drivers of those vehicles were not injured, police said.
State police are still investigating.
