CAR SEATS: Help needed to install

| May 9, 2010 10:00 PM

My granddaughter has found herself in a very difficult situation. She recently purchased a new car seat for her baby, who has now grown big enough to need a larger style. She has become so frustrated trying to find someone to help her install it correctly, because it MUST be installed correctly, and can't seem to find anyone to help her. I believe she is finally getting some help today, but it has been a maddening process.

I wonder how many other young mothers have to go through this difficulty, wanting to make sure their baby is safe in the car seat? (Probably all of them!) Couldn't the manufacturers build a seat that is mother-friendly?

My granddaughter has been trying to find help for two weeks. She called the hospital, who said they have someone to help on Thursdays, by appointment only, and they are booked until the end of the month. She was referred to WIC, and found no help there. Panhandle Health couldn't help her, nor the police department. The fire department was recommended to her, and when she called she was told there was one man who could do it, but he was gone until next week.

This is absurd. I find it hard to believe that there are so few people "trained" to put these safety seats in a car for a mother. Come on...in this whole county, are there so few? If anyone has any answers, I'm sure other mothers of babies will appreciate them.
