Smashing debut for Castro

Starlin Castro got awakened by a call to the majors on Friday and arrived in style, hitting a three-run homer in his first at-bat and driving in a record six runs during the visiting Chicago Cubs' 14-7 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

His six RBIs are the most in a modern day debut - one more than the previous mark shared by four players.

The 20-year-old became the youngest shortstop in Cubs history when he stepped onto the field for the first time.

Dodgers 6, Rockies 5: Matt Kemp tripled in the go-ahead run in the sixth, leading host Los Angeles past Colorado.

Brewers 3, Diamondbacks 2: At Phoenix, Yovani Gallardo had 10 strikeouts, leading Milwaukee past Arizona.

Cardinals 4, Pirates 3: Yadier Molina doubled in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning with his fourth hit, and St. Louis won at Pittsburgh.

Phillies 7, Braves 0: Forty-seven-year-old Jamie Moyer threw a two-hitter and host Philadelphia beat Atlanta.

Marlins 4, Nationals 2: Gaby Sanchez hit a tiebreaking single in the eighth and Florida won at Washington.

Mets 6, Giants 4: Ike Davis and Rod Barajas both homered twice, leading New York past visiting San Francisco.

Padres 7, Astros 0: Scott Hairston homered twice, leading San Diego at Houston.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Yankees 10, Red Sox 3: Nick Swisher hit a three-run homer and New York won at Boston.

Rangers 4, Royals 1: At Arlington, Texas, Vladimir Guerrero homered to lead Texas past Kansas City.

Blue Jays 7, White Sox 4, 12 inn.: Alex Gonzalez hit the tiebreaking three-run homer in the 12th and Toronto won at Chicago.

Rays 4, Athletics 1: Sean Rodriguez hit a two-run double and Tampa Bay won at Oakland.

Baltimore at Minnesota, ppd., rain: The Twins-Orioles game at Minneapolis was postponed due to steady rains.

The game will be made up today in a day-night doubleheader.

Detroit at Cleveland, ppd., rain: The Tigers-Indians game was postponed by rain after a delay of 2 hours, 12 minutes.

The teams played four innings with Detroit leading 7-6, but all records were washed away.

No makeup date was announced.
