POST FALLS — Coeur d’Alene junior Kinsey Gomez broke her meet record in the 1,600 meters in a time of 5 minutes, 17.61 seconds, beating her time by .18 seconds from last year, as the best of the best converged Thursday for the District I all-star meet.

“I was really excited,” Gomez said. “I didn’t think I’d done that at first and was arguing that I had. I wanted to be faster than this today, but am working toward doing that at regionals and state in the next two weeks.”

Gomez also won the 3,200 in 11:26.66.

“I’m really just focused on regionals and state,” Gomez said. “I’m looking forward to extending the season past state and on to the Junior Olympics. I’d love to win state in the one- and two-mile and feel I’m healthy and ready to compete at the state and national level.”

Post Falls’ 4x200 relay team of Kadie Booth, Josie Tennison, Allison Meehan and Shaundra Scott also set a meet record in a time of 1:47.17.

“They’ve been fairly consistent this season,” Post Falls coach Wade Quensell said. “This was the first time they’ve been at 1:47 and it will only improve.”

Booth also claimed first in the 100 and 200 in times of 13.10 and 26.91, respectively.

“For Kadie to have a couple wins was big,” Quesnell said. “We finally got some good weather and there was some good marks all around today. It was really nice to have some good weather for a change.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter senior Sabrina Ewing won in the long jump, high jump and triple jump, as well as running on the team’s second place 4x200 relay team.

In the boys events, Coeur d’Alene Charter junior Jacob Bowman won the 200 in 22.92 and was second in the 100 at 11.68.

“Overall, I could have done better in the jumps and 100,” Bowman said. “I came back with more energy in the 200. I was more focused on the race and wanted to get a good race in.”

Coeur d’Alene junior David Norris won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200, edging teammate Alex Hendricks and Timberlake’s Ryan Sacksteder by .12 and .30, respectively, in the 1,600.

Coeur d’Alene sophomore Carson Green set a meet record in the triple jump with a 43-foot jump, edging Timberlake’s Travis Porter by two inches.

The St. Maries sprint medley relay team of Chad Cloud, Eric Doman, Levon Howell and Nick Cordell won in 3:52.53.

“They’re a great team,” St. Maries coach Shannon Cloud said. “They’ve got a lot of spirit. Chad gave them a chance to take off with a good 400 and (Eric) Doman runs with a lot of heart. Eric strategically ran his race. I’m really happy for them.”
