Shock OC Sauk socked with suspension

TULSA, Okla. - The Arena Football League served Spokane Shock offensive coordinator Matt Sauk with a one-game suspension, effectively immediately. Sauk will serve the suspension during tonight's game against the Arizona Rattlers (7:30 p.m., ESPN 700).

Sauk was served the suspension for violating the AFL's Code of Conduct policy during last week's loss to the Cleveland Gladiators, according to commissioner Jerry Kurz.

Sauk charged by the officials after the final play of last Saturday night's home game vs. Cleveland, claiming pass interference should have been called on Cleveland in the end zone. Spokane lost 72-68.

Gibbs granted release by Gonzaga

SPOKANE - Gonzaga redshirt freshman guard Grant Gibbs has requested and been granted his release, Bulldogs coach Mark Few said.

Gibbs, who came to the Bulldogs from Linn-Mar High in Marion, Iowa, appeared in 24 games with one start this past season, averaging 9.3 minutes/game, 2.2 ppg, 1.9 rpg and 0.9 assists/game. His lone start was against Davidson in The Battle in Seattle when starting guard Matt Bouldin was sidelined with a concussion.

He redshirted the 2008-09 season as a true freshman.

"Grant has decided to pursue other options and we wish him well in his future endeavors," Few said.

Speculation is that Gibbs will transfer to a school in the midwest.
