Peter Grubb to speak at May 11 Upbeat Breakfast

The Coeur d'Alene Visitor's Bureau presents this month's Upbeat Breakfast with guest speaker Peter Grubb with ROW Adventures, speaking on the importance of Geo Tourism and Responsible Travel at 7:30 a.m. May 11 at The Coeur d'Alene Resort.

Every month features member trade tables, a breakfast sponsor, guest speaker and is an opportunity to meet hundreds of chamber members.

Pend d'Oreille Winery, Laughing Dog Brewery win top honors

Pend d'Oreille Winery and Laughing Dog Brewery both recently won top honors at the Wine, Stein and Dine event in Post Falls. The event was held at the Greyhound Event Center to benefit the Post Falls Education Foundation. Numerous food and beverage vendors were present to compete for medals, showcase their products and raise money for a worthy cause.

The Pend d'Oreille 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon topped the awards with the Best of Show (Grand Champion Medal), first place in the Northwest Wines category and first place for all Cabernets. The 2005 Merlot also earned a first-place medal for all Merlots to round out an amazing evening for Pend d'Oreille Winery.

Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce president resigns

The Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce has officially announced the resignation of president and CEO Amy Little, effective May 28.

Little has been at the helm of the Sandpoint Chamber since September 2007.

In her letter of resignation Little said her husband, Mark, was offered the job opportunity of a lifetime at Nike World Headquarters in Portland, Ore. She said she is proud to support her husband, as he has graciously supported her the past few years while she got to enjoy her dream job.

Little, her husband and two children are relocating to the Portland area at the end of this month.

Making their mark

• Gov. Butch Otter recently appointed Len Crosby of Post Falls to the Idaho Credit Rating Enhancement Committee as a representative of the Idaho Bond Bank Authority, on which he serves.

The ICREC is charged with advising the governor and the Legislature regarding policies and actions that enhance and maintain the credit rating of the state of Idaho to insure the availability of low cost capital financing.

The committee is chaired by Ron Crane, the State Treasurer. Crosby serves on the committee with treasurer Crane, Sen. Chuck Winder, Rep. Scott Bedke, the administrator of the Division of Financial Management, and representatives from the Idaho Housing and Finance Association, Idaho State Building Authority and the School Bond Guarantee Program.

• North Idaho College Computer Applications and Office Technology Instructor Kathie O'Brien, the adviser of the NIC chapter of Business Professionals of America, has been named to the national Business Professionals of America Hall of Fame.

O'Brien will be honored at the BPA National Leadership Conference May 5-9 in Anaheim, Calif.

O'Brien has worked at NIC since 2000. During that time, she was instrumental in establishing a chapter of the business education organization Business Professionals of America at NIC. O'Brien serves as the NIC chapter adviser and under her leadership, NIC students have earned numerous BPA awards and have been elected to offices at both the state and national levels.

O'Brien was the recipient of the 2006-2007 BPA National Outstanding Service Award.

She is also a member of and has held offices in numerous professional organizations, such as the National Business Education Association and the Idaho Business Education Association.
