ILLEGALS: Know law, then state opinions
In response to Teri White's letter on the New Arizona law. Ms. White, you really need to do some research on what that law entails. It is nothing more than what the Federal Law On Immigration is currently.
And you really need to understand what all police officers do in the performance of their duties. A police officer is required to have reasonable suspicion to make a stop or approach a citizen, he/she needs probable cause to arrest that citizen. After the arrest if he/she has reasonable suspicion that the person is not a legal citizen of this country it his/her duty to determine the immigration status of that person.
This is actually pretty easy to do with the computer systems we have today, if the person is not legally in this country they have committed an additional crime. Anyone that is a legal resident or has a Green Card is required by law to carry that Green Card or Visa, pretty simple. What we have are people like you that have a lack of understanding about what the laws of the land really are, and you sure don't understand what restricts the actions your police officers can and cannot do legally. Let me put it in simple terms for you, I carry a firearm for personal protection, I am required by law to carry my CCW permit at all times that I carry that weapon, and my retired ID card, if not I am in violation of the law.
