Letter carriers food drive is May 8
The National Association of Letter Carriers will have its annual food drive May 8.
This year, "Stamp Out Hunger," the nation's largest single-day food drive, will look to surpass one billion pounds of food collected since its inception in 1993.
Letter carriers in North Idaho will participate in the food drive and will be collecting food on Saturday. Anyone who wishes to participate is asked to leave the bag of nonperishable food items near their mailbox.
Food collected will go to local food banks.
Last year, letter carriers across the country collected a record total of more than 73.4 million pounds of food.
LCDC planning session is Thursday
COEUR d'ALENE - Time to talk strategy.
Lake City Development Corp. is holding its annual strategic planning session at 7 a.m. Thursday at the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center to discuss the agency's short and long-term goals for Kootenai County.
Guest speakers include Mayor Sandi Bloem, Kootenai County Commissioner Rick Currie and Jobs Plus director Steve Griffitts.
The board will also establish its goals for fiscal year 2011.
The meeting will be in the Osprey Room.
Candidates will be at town hall meeting
COEUR d'ALENE - A town hall meeting to meet some candidates for public office is scheduled 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn Express, 151 W. Orchard Ave.
Candidates expected are Tamara Wells, who is running for governor; Rep. Phil Hart, seeking re-election to District 3 Seat B; Steve Vick, running for District 3 Senate seat; Vito Barbieri, representative District 3, and Jai Nelson, Kootenai County commissioner.
There will be free refreshments.
