Baker among Griz recognized by Big Sky
University of Montana basketball player Katie Baker, a former Lake City High standout and Coeur d'Alene Charter graduate, was among 32 Grizzlies awarded 2009-2010 All-Academic team honors by the Big Sky Conference.
Baker, a freshman, was injured early in the basketball season.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Sky Conference consideration, student-athletes need at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and must have competed in at least half the team's competitions during the most recently completed athletic season.
Vandal golfers fifth at WAC tourney
HENDERSON, Nev. - Day 1 didn't go exactly the way coach Jon Reehoorn and the University of Idaho men's golf team would have liked but the good news is there are two days and 36 holes remaining in the Western Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.
True freshman Matt Rawitzer, who is third after opening with a four-under 68 that included five front-nine birdies and just one bogey. Senior David Nuhn is tied for ninth at one-under 71 with sophomore Jarred Bossio tied for 23rd at 75 and senior Brad Tensen and sophomore Stefan Richardson tied for 30th at 76.
Nevada's seven-under 281 leads the tournament with New Mexico State second at 283, San Jose State third at 287, Fresno State fourth at 288 and the Vandals in fifth at 290. Boise State is in eight at 301.
