Council to seek McEuen Field bids
COEUR d’ALENE — The city of Coeur d’Alene is expected to approve putting the conceptual design project for McEuen Field out to bid tonight.
The parks department is seeking authority to begin advertising for design companies interested in working on the reconstruction project from the City Council during its 6 p.m. meeting in the Community Room of the Coeur d’Alene Public Library.
The design project will cost around $125,000, and will implement ideas from community meetings on what types of amenities the park south of Front Avenue near Tubbs Hill and Lake Coeur d’Alene could include.
The proposal will seek qualifications from design companies until May 27.
Benefit to help homeless agencies
The Coeur d’Alene High School Vikings will take on the Lake City Timberwolves at 6 p.m. Wednesday at McEuen Field in a “Homeruns 4 Homeless” benefit for area nonprofits.
The community can help by coming out and pledging donations per home run or donating food. There will also be a clothing drive and a raffle.
The Coeur d’Alene School District has about 240 homeless students.
In addition, the first 100 people who show-up with three cans of food will receive a free “Homeruns 4 Homeless” T-shirt donated by Sports Cellar.
Organizations to receive support include Family Promise, Children’s Village, Fresh Start, Project Safe Place and the Dirne Clinic.

Silverwood gives tickets to readers
Silverwood Theme Park concluded another year of its “Reading is the Ticket” Program, which gives a free admission tickets to kindergarten through eighth-grade students who complete 10 hours of recreational reading.
This year, a record 60,414 tickets valued at over $2.5 million were given away to school children throughout the Northwest.
Since the program’s inception in 1999, Silverwood has given away hundreds of thousands of tickets as part of the program.
“Teaching kids to enjoy reading in their daily lives is critically important” said Nancy DiGiammarco, Silverwood’s marketing, sales, and public relations director. “We’re extremely happy to help reward and inspire kids with this program.”
