VOLUNTEERS: Show dedication

In honoring April as Volunteer Appreciation Month, I would like to take this time to thank our local volunteers of Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org) for all of their time and dedication. When the statistics for this devastating disease say that you only have a 5 percent chance of survival after five years and see the pathetic amount of funding this disease gets for research, it gives you a passion to change that! This group of volunteers has the drive to do that!

We are a network of people that are dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer. We raise money for direct private funding of research-and advocate for more aggressive federal research funding of medical breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

We are in the planning stages of a bike ride from Spokane to Coeur d'Alene, called Purple Ride SPOKE->d'ALENE, to be held on Aug. 28, 2010. It will end in Riverstone Park with a community picnic.

Again, thank you, North Idaho Affiliate! You are making a difference!
