ABUSE: Men, take responsibility
The story of the father who seriously injured his 6-year-old son by striking him in the face reminds us yet again that the most endangered species in our world is our young children.
It seems that most often it is a father, or boyfriend of a single mother, who loses his temper and batters the child. Somehow our society needs to find better ways to help young men accept the awesome responsibility required to raise a child in an atmosphere free of rage and rejection.
The first step toward that goal would be to urge men to be more conscientious in their use of birth control so the birth of an unwanted child would occur less often. We know that children raised in a hostile environment grow into hostile adults. It is so important that we do all we can to break this cycle of child abuse and neglect.
