More I-90 delays begin Tuesday

POST FALLS - More delays on Interstate 90 from the state line to the Spokane Street exit in Post Falls will start on Tuesday when one lane in each direction will be closed on a 24-hour basis.

The situation is expected to last about 30 days.

Three bridges in the 4.6-mile stretch are being rehabilitated. The project is expected to last until mid-June.

To assist the motoring public during construction, the Idaho Transportation Department will be implementing an incident response team in marked vehicles.

"This team will work the I-90 corridor in a marked vehicle assisting the motoring public with breakdowns, flat tires and traffic hazards in the road," a state press release states. "This unit will help keep traffic flowing through the congested construction area."

The service, which starts Tuesday and will continue until the end of construction, also will assist Idaho State Police in responding to calls on I-90.

Delays of more than 15 minutes are expected.

Work will be done simultaneously on the bridge at the state line over the Spokane River, the bridges over Pleasantview Road and Spokane Street.

Once the bridge work is complete, night lane closures will continue for about 20 more days. During that time, there will be paving and striping in each direction.

ITD estimates that an average of 50,000 vehicles travel the stretch per day.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes due to the delays and congestion.
