Cd'A police investigate assault case

A man reported someone yelled racial slurs at him and a friend Wednesday night, then tried to run them over.

According to the Coeur d’Alene Police, the victim and a friend were standing near the southwest corner of 11th and Stiner about 7:30 when an older truck with two men stopped near them.

Both occupants in the vehicle were holding beer cans and obviously very intoxicated, police reported.

The driver made some racial comments, so the victim and friend walked away.

“The suspect vehicle reversed very quickly” and “accelerated toward them and they had to jump behind the parked car.”

The victim told police he “was sure the suspects tried to strike them with the vehicle and if he hadn’t moved they would have.”

The truck then turned north and left the scene.
