| March 31, 2010 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - She's going to be in town to be honored anyway, so why not?

Kristin Armstrong, an Olympic gold medalist in cycling and a Boise resident, will be the featured speaker at the 48th annual North Idaho Sports Banquet, scheduled for April 10 at the Best Western Coeur d'Alene Inn.

Armstrong is one of five who will be inducted that night into the Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame, and will be honored at the banquet.

Armstrong, a University of Idaho graduate, has won five national championship and four world championship medals, including four national titles and two world championships. In 2008, she became the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in the time trial.

She won her second world championship in 2009, and is the most decorated female cyclist in U.S. history.

She will be joined in the Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame by the late Corissa Yasen, the former star at Coeur d'Alene High and Purdue University; Alli Nieman, the former Sandpoint High and Idaho standout; Doug Nussmeier, ex-Idaho quarterback, and David Triplett, former Pocatello High athlete who went on to play football at Idaho and later coached at Capital High in Boise.

High school and college teams and coaches will also be honored at the banquet.

The banquet begins at 6:30 p.m., following a social hour from 5:30-6:30.

Tickets are available at Les Schwab tire outlets, or by calling Dr. James Lynn at 762-1043.
