Former Spokane Chief defenseman Justin Falk has been recalled by the NHL's Minnesota Wild. Falk was recently named as one of the Top 25 Chiefs in 25 Years.

Originally property of the Calgary Hitmen, Falk was selected with the 189th overall selection in the 2003 WHL Bantam Draft and played only nine games with them before a November, 2005 trade brought him to Spokane.

Spokane to open WHL playoffs against Portland at Rose Garden

As the fourth-seed in the Western Conference, the Spokane Chiefs will play the Portland Winterhawks, the fifth-seed in the first round of the Western Hockey League playoffs.

Spokane holds the home-ice advantage and will host Games 3-4 and if necessary, Game 5 next week.

All three of Spokane's wins came in Portland, while the Winterhawks were 4-0 in Spokane. Seven of the eight matchups were in the first 36 games of the season, with only one (March 5) taking place in the second half.

The Western Hockey League Bantam Draft Lottery was held on Wednesday at the WHL Office in Calgary to determine the order of the first six selections in the first round of the upcoming draft involving the six teams not involved in the playoffs.

Price George had a ball drawn first in the lottery, giving them the first overall pick, followed by the Edmonton Oil Kings, based on their position in the 2009-10 regular season standings.

Lethbridge will select third and the Spokane Chiefs will pick at No. 17.
