BUYERS: Don't pay big deposits

| June 20, 2010 10:00 PM

Myck Beard of Lake City Builders steals $120,000 from five different people, and he gets 14 years to pay it back! That is ridiculous. My family family runs a local contracting business in Coeur d’Alene, and not only did he ruin those five people, but he makes us all look bad.

What a nice deal for him. He got a free loan at the expense of his victims for a nice trip to Disneyland and gets interest-free tems for 14 years. By the sound of all those bankruptcies, he is pretty good at skirting around debt that he shouldn’t have incurred in the first place.

I hope everyone can take in this lesson and NEVER give us contractors more than a small deposit at the beginning of a job, since Mr. Beard is helping create such a good name for us.

The real point of this letter is to say that not all contractors are bad. In fact, I have met only good ones and this is a great area to find great contractors in. Just be a little careful, go with your gut, and don’t ever give out more money than you absolutely need to. And don’t ever, ever pay more until progress has been made on your job.
