City Council to consider leasing parking lots

| June 15, 2010 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - Parking cars could be more expensive on the Fourth of July.

The Coeur d'Alene City Council will consider leasing its five downtown parking lots to the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce on Independence Day.

The chamber would pay $7,000 for the one-day lease, and increase the standard $5 all day parking price to $10 to help raise funds for the firework show.

The City Council will also consider rezoning around an acre's worth of property inside the North Idaho College education corridor to match the surrounding area of Commercial 17 zone. The more flexible zoning would allow portable classrooms on the two sites, which comprise 1.1 acres at 909 and 927 W. River Ave.

The council will meet at 6 tonight in the Community Room of the Coeur d'Alene Public Library.
