Robert Leo Franssen Sr., 79

Robert Leo Franssen Sr. went to his heavenly reward on May 25, 2010. He was born and raised in Nebraska and went into the Navy in December 1950.

He broke his back aboard the battleship the USS Piedmont in February 1951 and was sent to Oak Knoll Naval Hospital. He was in a full body cast for almost one year. While in the hospital he met his lifetime love Arline Balsbaugh on Nov. 4, 1950. They were married on May 10, 1952, and celebrated their 58th anniversary on May 10, 2010.

He leaves behind his wife; their four children, Robert, Vickie, Ronald and Randall; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

His internment will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Date to be announced.
