Post Falls Juniors capture opener in state playoffs

Other three local teams all fall in first round of best-of-3 series

POST FALLS - Nate Gomer went 4 for 5 with three singles and a double as Post Falls defeated North Boise 18-12 in the opening game of a best-of-3 series in the state Junior (age 13-14) Little League playoffs Friday at Brett James Field.

Kurtis Wiltse went 3 for 4 and Aaron Smith had three singles and reached base five times for Post Falls, which can clinch a berth to the regional tournament in Laguna Niguel, Calif., with a win today at 10 a.m. in Post Falls.

If North Boise wins, the deciding game will be played immediately following.

Adrien Melenowski went 5 for 5 with four singles and a double for North Boise.

OTHER STATE PLAYOFF OPENERS

AGE 10-11

Northwest Ada 6, Post Falls 0: Jake Pfennigs of Post Falls had eight strikeouts in a loss to Northwest Ada at McDermitt Park in Meridian in the first round of their best-of-3 state playoff series.

The game was scoreless through five innings before four errors in the sixth inning cost Post Falls the game.

AGE 9-10

West Valley 5, Hayden 1: Mikey Kelley had two singles for Hayden and Jake Kettell hit a double in a loss to West Valley in Game 1 of their best-of-3 state playoff series. Game 2 is today.

MAJORS (AGE 11-12)

North Boise 15, Coeur d'Alene 2: Further details were not reported from the first game of their best-of-3 state playoff series. Game 2 is today.
