Vikings reunite in Cd'A
'Tis the season to reunite. This weekend there will be ample opportunity to reconnect with old friends, literally. On Friday my fellow old Vikings from Coeur d'Alene's class of 1970 will be mingling at Sherman Park, on the hallowed ground of the old Woolworth's. That night CHS class of 1985 will be meeting up at the Eagles and CHS class of 1980 will be on the deck at Parkside Towers. On Saturday the class of '70 will enjoy a catered dinner by Ekness (and yes, there are North Idaho beer balls on the menu!) in the gardens of the Roosevelt Inn, where many of our classmates attended elementary school. The class of '80 will be at the Eagles Saturday night and class of '85 is taking a cruise on Lake Coeur d'Alene until 8 p.m. Word has it that Post Falls High School's class of 1980 will be cruising Sherman Avenue on Friday night before their Saturday evening get-together at Moon Dollars.

The Johnson sisters, now known as Kathy Hlebichuk and Karen Ouren, have found a way to honor, Barb, the sister they lost to pancreatic cancer. Happy Birthday today to Matt Gardner and Todd Jenicek and tomorrow to Debbie Brown, Jennifer Schmidt and Gary Walker. Gary's marking his big 7-0! On Friday the celebrating will be done by Marilee Wallace, Katie Brodie, Jeremy Epstein, Cassie Ohlig and Caroline Kreager. Karen Prosser and Marie Price are Saturday's birthday girls. On Monday Doreen Mack, Nick Epstein and Lois Johnson will blow out the candles, followed by Rick Scharf and Janet Pulis on Tuesday. A belated happy 70th to Shirley Jones, who marked her day yesterday. Shirley is a former Woolworth's lunch counter lady in Coeur d'Alene for you trivia buffs.

Once a year I change out my column mug shot and it's that time. This new one was taken by Kibbee Walton of Artisan Portraits a couple of weeks ago. He has held free sessions multiple times this year as a benefit for the Post Falls Food Bank. Thanks Kibbee. And also thanks to Sean Watson for the photo that has run with my column this past year.
