| July 19, 2010 9:00 PM

"Summertime and the living is..." Well, easy if you want it to be like the Gershwin song, or full of adventure and activities if that's your pleasure. Most importantly, summer has finally arrived in Coeur d'Alene. The downtown event calendar is packed and there are plenty of fun and interesting things to do.

The Coeur d'Alene Police Department is excited to be a part of the summer experience, and is pleased to offer a free, family event in the Coeur d'Alene City Park. The Cd'A PD will host an "Outdoor Movie Night" in the band shell area this Friday at dusk.

The evening will kick off with Master of Ceremonies, Chief Wayne Longo, welcoming families to the park. He will then introduce Officer Tom Sparks, formerly of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, who will provide a Drug Free and Character Education presentation. At twilight, the large movie screen will be filled with the lively, enchanting cartoon, 'Barnyard.'

Families are encouraged to bring their blankets, chairs, picnic baskets, and then sit back and enjoy the show. The Panhandle Kiwanis Club is providing free popcorn.

Police officers in attendance will be meeting and greeting children. Chief Longo, sharing his enthusiasm for the movie night, said, "We are excited about hosting an event to help draw families into City Park in the early evening hours." He added, "Our hope is that this becomes a traditional event for our citizens."

A second movie night is planned for Saturday, Aug. 14. The movie title is yet to be selected, but please mark your calendars and plan to attend this fun, family event. For more information, please contact 769-2363.
