TRASH: No way to show pride

| July 11, 2010 10:00 PM

The Press headline on July 5 read “Patriotism, Love of Country.”  We all had a great time celebrating the birth of our country and demonstrating our patriotism with our neighbors.

The city did a nice job, the parade and fireworks were excellent, and the park was spotless by early Monday morning (one more atta boy for the city crews).

I’d just like to offer special thanks to those of you who chose to put your garbage in the yards and along the downtown street where I live so my neighbors and I could clean it up for you after you left.  Why, a couple of you even bundled up your trash nicely in sacks before you left it. What’s with that mindset, anyway?

Was that truly some kind of remorse for the act you were committing? Were you really trying to make it easier for me to clean up after you? Makes anything you may say about your pride and love of country a little hollow, if you ask me.

So come on. You know who you are. Drop and give me 10, then grab a garbage bag and circle your block once collecting trash, and don’t do it again, ever.
