Local 14U teams drop into losers bracket
The Idaho Diamond Bandits from Meridian and the Idaho Golden Gloves from Boise each won twice on Friday as the Idaho ASA state 14-and-under girls fastpitch softball tournament got under way at Ramsey Park in Coeur d'Alene.
The three local teams entered in the 13-team tournament - the Coeur d'Alene Crush, Lake City Ladies and Northwest Wildfire - each lost on Friday to drop into the losers bracket.
The Diamond Bandits beat the Crush 4-1 and the Vale (Ore.) Dust Devils 5-3. Dakoda Lee of the Bandits pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts against the Crush, and also hit a two-run double. Against the Dust Devils, Lee went 3 for 3 with three runs, and teammate Courtney Armstrong was 3 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs.
The Golden Gloves beat the Lunachicks of Troy 15-0 in four innings, and beat the Lake City Ladies 8-0. Against the Lunachicks, Rickey Kamimae went 3 for 3 with two doubles and four RBIs for the Golden Gloves, and Heather Adams pitched a one-hitter. Against the Ladies, Hailey Chambers went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs.
The Idaho Xplosion of Boise also advanced in the winners bracket, beating the Lewiston Stampede 5-0. Michelle Miller went 3 for 3 with two runs for the winners, and Nicole Arizana threw a one-hitter.
Earlier, the Lewiston Stampede beat the Idaho Sliders of Boise 4-2. Shawnee Zink struck out seven in the win.
In the first round, the Lake City Ladies beat the Caldwell Chargers Gold 9-0. Brittany Gay was the winning pitcher and Lexi Butterfield went 2 for 3 and scored twice.
Western Storm of Homedale downed the Northwest Wildfire 2-1 in eight innings. Mallory Aodis threw a one-hitter for the Storm.
Western Storm then defeated Boise Blast Red 6-4. Jess Peloquin and Mallory Dardis scored two runs each in the win. Sam Whitley had two hits and two runs in the loss.
For the local teams today, the Crush play the Idaho Sliders at 9 a.m., the Wildfire play the Vale Dust Devils at 9, and the Lake City Ladies play the Crush/Idaho Sliders loser at 11.
The winner of today's winners bracket game at 3 p.m. advances to Sunday's championship game at 11:30 a.m.
Breana Burke pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts as the Coeur d'Alene Crush '97 beat the Boise Blast 8-0 in their first game at the state 12-and-under tournament in Lewiston.
Bryce Catt went 3 for 3 with two triples for the Crush, and JaeCie Wilson and Jadyn Behm had two hits each.
