Karen Engelby, 60

Karen Sue Engelby, 60, of Rathdrum, Idaho died July 2, 2010, at Kootenai Medical Center. She was born Oct. 2, 1949, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Donald and Lorraine (Woods) Downey. After graduating from high school, Karen was married to Michael Engelby and they moved to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1966. Karen was a school bus driver for 26 years and she also worked at Taco Bell. She and Mike owned and operated the Blue Lagoon Tavern for three years, and then Karen became a personal banker for American West Bank. During their marriage, Karen and Mike cleared over 300 miles of trails for the Idaho Forest Service.

Karen loved bird hunting, bowling, dancing and karaoke. She was a member of His Place Church in Post Falls and was loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by a daughter, Amey Best; her grandchildren, Shawn Engelby and Kristina Engelby; and her former husband, Michael Engelby. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Melissa Engelby; a son, Duane Engelby; two brothers and one sister.

The visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today, July 9, 2010, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel with burial following at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.
