NIC boosts its energy efficiency

| February 25, 2010 11:00 PM

North Idaho College has made a number of major energy efficiency improvements to campus facilities that have qualified the college for more than $88,000 in energy efficiency incentives from Avista.

By upgrading the HVAC equipment and adding controls to five campus buildings, NIC will reduce its annual energy costs by $30,000 and save enough electricity to power 15 homes for one year and serve 23 homes with natural gas. Campus buildings receiving the upgrades are Winston/Post, Hedlund Auto Body Shop, Molstead Library, Lee-Kildow Hall and River Building.

"Avista has been an exceptional partner throughout this project. We plan to re-invest the rebate check into future energy-saving projects on campus, so we can continue to reap the rewards of being energy efficient," said Bill McElver, North Idaho College physical plant supervisor. "NIC looks forward to continuing our partnership with Avista and to being both green and saving green in the future."

McElver will receive Avista's energy efficiency incentive check at 11 a.m. today, at the Fort Sherman Officer's Quarters, 917 W. Garden Ave. on the NIC campus.

"North Idaho College is a great example of how businesses can take advantage of Avista's energy efficiency programs to help manage their energy costs," said Bruce Folsom, Avista's director of energy efficiency. "We are excited for NIC to enjoy the long-lasting benefits and savings of implementing energy efficient systems."
